A Rosarito police officer was shot and killed last night at a checkpoint on the Transpeninsular Highway between Rosarito and Tijuana. The traffic officer, who had eight years of service, was conducting a routine stop when the driver of the vehicle opened fire.

The incident was reported shortly after 9:00 p.m. via municipal radio, prompting a request for Red Cross assistance.

The suspect's vehicle, a white KIA with California plates, was found minutes later on Ames Gilbert Street in the La Mina neighborhood.

According to initial reports, a man wearing a black jacket and blue jeans was seen exiting the vehicle.
