Attempted home invasion ends in death in Oceanside
A resident shot and killed a man suspected of attempting to invade a house in Oceanside, according to police authorities.
Reports from the Oceanside Police indicate that officers were dispatched to the 4100 block of Diamond Circle around 7:22 p.m. on Monday due to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. A man and a woman were inside the house when an unknown man, armed with a rock and a stick, entered the backyard and then made his way through a sliding bedroom door. The police noted that the female resident was in the bedroom when the intruder entered.
According to the authorities, the intruder threw the rock at the male resident, hitting him in the face. The injured resident grabbed a gun and fired at least three shots, hitting the intruder once in the chest.
Emergency services attempted life-saving measures on the intruder, described as a 22-year-old man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The resident who fired the shots was not arrested; the shooting is being investigated by the Oceanside Police Department’s Crimes of Violence Unit as a potential case of self-defense.
