Tensions reached their peak near Burger King, where a group of taxis blocked the road
In an episode of discontent, red taxi drivers in Tijuana, México, have blocked the intersection of 5th and 10th, sparking a chaotic confrontation between authorities and taxi drivers.
The protest has arisen in response to proposed changes by the Institute of Mobility (IMOS), which plans to remove a significant number of red-colored taxis from service and address fines that taxi drivers consider unfair.
Tensions reached their peak near Burger King, where a group of taxis blocked the road in both directions, triggering a series of violent events. Police officers positioned themselves as a barrier, and at one point, taxi drivers began throwing stones.
When the police attempted to forcefully enter the "stronghold" of the taxi drivers, a physical confrontation ensued, with taxi drivers engaging in fistfights with the officers.
So far, several injuries have been reported, including two journalists, two civilians, a police officer, and 10 individuals detained as a result of this confrontation.
Residents and visitors of Tijuana are advised to take extra precautions as the area is affected by traffic disruptions due to this ongoing situation.
