According to preliminary results
The National Electoral Council (CNE) has declared President Nicolás Maduro of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) as the winner of the Venezuelan presidential elections with 51.2% of the votes, following the counting of 80% of the ballots, CNN reported. Opposition candidate Edmundo González of the Democratic Unity Platform (PUD) received 44.2% of the vote, according to the electoral body.
Despite opposition claims of irregularities in the counting process, Maduro has secured his third re-election for the term from January 2025 to January 2031, The Associated Press reported.
In a press conference, held with a delay of just over four hours, CNE President Elvis Amoroso stated that Maduro received just over five million votes, while González obtained around four million, El Universal reported.
