The situation in Haiti has become increasingly dire, with a worsening of violence since the beginning of the year
The Embassy of Mexico in Haiti has issued an urgent call to all Mexican residents or visitors in Port-au-Prince, following the escalation of violence and clashes with gangs in the Haitian capital.
Vanessa Calva, the Director General of Consular Protection and Strategic Planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), urges citizens to contact the Mexican diplomatic representation immediately. Mexicans can do so via email at contactoembhai@sre.gob.mx or by calling +50938490085.
"Please, anyone who has not yet contacted our embassy in Haiti, do so without delay," emphasized Calva.
The situation in Haiti has become increasingly dire, with a worsening of violence since the beginning of the year. Gang clashes have intensified, and the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry in March 2024 has further complicated the situation, according to UN reports.
According to a recent UN report, January and February of this year have been the most violent months in Port-au-Prince in the past two years, with over 2,500 people killed, kidnapped, or injured since the beginning of the year.
