Police were attempting to execute a search warrant
In a tense night in Arlington, Virginia, the 800 block of North Burlington Street was rocked by an explosion as the police executed a search warrant at a residence. Unfortunately, moments before entry, an explosion occurred, causing unexpected chaos.
According to local police reports, the suspect inside the residence opened fire before the explosion. The situation prompted the Arlington Fire Department to respond to what they described as a "structural fire."
Despite the magnitude of the explosion, officers on the scene suffered "minor injuries" that did not require hospitalization, thanks to the swift response of firefighters who managed to extinguish the fire.
As of now, no information has been provided regarding the condition of the suspect. It is unclear whether the suspect was arrested, injured in the explosion, or managed to escape before the incident.
Arlington Fire Captain and spokesperson Nate Hiner indicated that the cause of the explosion is still unknown. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has deployed federal agents and investigators to collaborate on the investigation.
Eyewitnesses report that the explosion resonated within a 3-kilometer radius, bewildering nearby residents, some of whom initially thought it was an incident related to a fallen tree given the magnitude of the thunderous sound. The investigation is ongoing to clarify the details of the incident in Arlington.
