This Wednesday, eight children were injured in a tragic accident in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India, after the car they were traveling in to Bethany school collided with a truck. The incident was captured by a nearby store's camera.
According to local television reports, the children were on their way to school at 7 in the morning. The video shows the exact moment when the auto-rickshaw and the truck violently collide due to the high speed of the vehicle carrying the minors. Due to the strong impact, you can see the children being ejected from the auto-rickshaw, their bodies colliding with the pavement.
In a matter of seconds, several passersby and drivers stop their vehicles and run to help the injured. Efforts can be seen to move the overturned car and rescue the children trapped underneath.
Of the eight affected minors, four have been discharged, while three others are still receiving treatment. The police reported that one student is in critical condition.
"A car collided with a truck at the Sangam Sarat Theater junction in Visakhapatnam. Eight children were injured and taken to the hospital. Four of them have been discharged, three students are receiving treatment, and one student is in critical condition," said Police Officer Srinivasa Rao.
Authorities have detained the drivers of both vehicles and are conducting an investigation to determine if the truck was allowed to be on the road during the early morning hours. The police also noted that the car was overloaded, which may have contributed to the severity of the accident.
