The men are accused of restraining, sexually assaulting, and threatening the life of a transgender woman in Las Vegas, Nevada
Two men are facing serious charges for allegedly binding, sexually assaulting, and threatening the life of a transgender woman inside a residence in North Las Vegas. One of the accused reportedly threatened the victim's life with a rifle, as stated by official sources.
A grand jury has filed charges against Daniel Corpus-Perez and Diego Verduzco, including first-degree kidnapping resulting in substantial bodily harm and sexual assault, as detailed by prosecutors on Wednesday. Additionally, Verduzco is facing an additional charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
The alleged victim contacted the authorities from a hospital in the Las Vegas area, reporting that she had been "kidnapped, raped, and assaulted" at a North Las Vegas residence, according to the police account.
An officer responded to the call and interviewed the woman, who claimed to have met Verduzco through a dating app several days prior, according to legal documents. The records suggest that Verduzco and the victim spent the night together, consuming alcoholic beverages in the mentioned residence and later strolling on the Las Vegas Strip.
According to the documents, around midnight, the pair returned to Diego's residence, where a verbal altercation ensued due to loud music being played by roommates. During the argument, the victim asked Diego to be quiet, to which he responded with a death threat, stating that she was lucky to be alive.
The woman warned Diego that she would defend herself if he touched her, but according to the records, he punched her in the chin, rendering her unconscious.
The victim told the police that, upon regaining consciousness, she found herself bound by her wrists and ankles with wire by Diego and another roommate identified as Corpus-Perez, as indicated in the records. It was at this point that Verduzco allegedly sexually assaulted her and threatened her life with an AR-style rifle, aiming it at her forehead and demanding appropriate behavior if she wanted to survive.
At one point, Verduzco reportedly took the victim's phone, made threatening statements, and even shared her mother's phone number while taking multiple photographs. The victim displayed visible injuries to her face, a fractured tooth, and marks on her wrists and ankles.
After several hours, Verduzco drove the victim back to her home, but during the journey, he allegedly threatened her with retaliation if authorities came to her residence. The situation was resolved when a family member saw the victim near her home and called 911.
Metro police records revealed that authorities had previously responded to Verduzco's residence in connection with a "domestic violence incident involving an individual armed with a 'long gun,'" as indicated in the police documents. Verduzco reportedly fired a shot during the incident.
A North Las Vegas SWAT team arrested both men and several others. Corpus-Perez informed the police that he did not assist Verduzco and denied any involvement, according to the documents.
A North Las Vegas Justice Court judge set bail at $40,000 for Verduzco and $10,000 for Corpus-Perez during hearings last month, as per judicial records. Both are expected to appear in district court later this month.
