The series between San Diego and Dodgers is tied at one victory each

Before achieving his 56th stolen base of the season, which he secured last night in the sixth inning, Shohei Ohtani drove in the go-ahead run with a single, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-3 victory over the San Diego Padres, thus tying the series at one win apiece.

This victory leaves Los Angeles just one win away from securing the title in the National League West Division, as they now hold a 3-game lead with four games remaining.

This means the "magic number" of wins needed for Los Angeles to clinch the West is just 2, assuming the Padres win all four of their remaining games, including today's matchup against the Dodgers.

If the Dodgers win the division this year, it will be their eleventh division title in 12 years. Despite this, both the Padres and the Dodgers have already secured their spots in the playoffs.

With last night’s loss, the Padres ended their five-game winning streak, although their previous wins were enough to qualify for the playoffs, following the triple play that concluded the first game of the series against the Dodgers.

The decisive run last night came in the sixth inning when, with two strikes and two outs on the board, Ohtani hit a single off Cuban pitcher Adrián Morejón, driving in Smith, who had drawn a walk in his first at-bat, making the score 4-3.

The final game of the series between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers will be this Thursday.
