Here are some tips to help you identify them

The County of San Diego has issued a warning about fraudulent QR codes being placed on parking meters around the city. Scammers are using these codes to steal users' payment information. Authorities urge citizens NOT to use these QR codes. The county only authorizes the use of the Park Smarter app for parking payments.

Beware of fake QR codes on parking meters! Scammers are placing them on meters to steal your payment information.

Here’s how to protect yourself:

  • DO NOT use a QR code to pay for parking: San Diego only uses QR codes to download the Park Smarter app.
  • Parking meters only accept secure payment options: credit cards, NFC payments (Apple Pay, Android Pay), coins, or payments through the Park Smarter app.
  • Check for tampered stickers or suspicious codes before scanning.
