Delay in border crossings and airport
Border crossings between Mexico and the United States came to a halt from 10:00 p.m. on Thursday due to a global system failure affecting the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) system. The issue, caused by a failed Windows update, led to the closure of the San Ysidro, Otay, Tecate, and Mexicali ports of entry.
Vehicle lines began to form early in the morning, with motorists reporting long waits to enter the United States. The crossings were reopened shortly before 7:00 a.m. on Friday, but the process remains slow due to thorough vehicle inspections.
The Tijuana airport has advised passengers to arrive early for documentation processes and has thanked affected individuals for their patience. George Kurtz, CEO of CrowdStrike, confirmed that the failure was not a cyberattack and that a solution is being implemented.
